Tell Your Legislator To Support The Ads Fix
Tell Your Lawmaker You Support Keeping The Internet Free
Dear California Lawmaker, Free access to the websites and apps that I depend on every day is at risk, and you can help. I am a constituent in your district and am writing to ask that you support the “ads fix” as part of overall efforts to clean up and clarify portions of the Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CCPA) passed last legislative session. Stronger data protection is something we all support, but lack of clarity in the CCPA could jeopardize modern online advertising. Today, online ads help support equal and free access to critical online services including email, news, driving directions, weather reporting, sports, streaming music, stock market updates, and more. The CCPA was never intended to prohibit the use of tailored online ads, since these ads do not require personally identifiable information – such as name, address, social security number, email, etc. -- to be delivered. Serving privacy-protective tailored ads to consumers on the internet helps to ensure that important online services remain free for all, just as network television’s free content is supported by advertising. Free access to important online services is critical to our personal and working lives. Supporting ads fix will ensure my privacy is protected without jeopardizing the free internet! Thank you.
